Texas Health Care Association Names Representative Travis Clardy Long Term Care Champion

Nacogdoches lawmaker honored for his efforts to help nursing homes improve care

(Nacogdoches, TX) – State Representative Travis Clardy received recognition for his work to make Texas nursing homes better during the 86th legislative session in 2019.

The award is given after every legislative session by the Texas Health Care Association (THCA), the state’s largest long term care association which advocates for long term care.

“Resident, Families and long term care communities across Texas, should know how important long term care is to Representative Clardy,” said Kevin Warren, president and CEO of the Texas Health Care Association, which advocates in Austin for improved long-term care in Texas. “We are very thankful for his support and the commitment he shows in fighting for vulnerable senior Texans.”

Clardy was recognized for his efforts at a ceremony held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Willowbrook Nursing Center in Nacogdoches.

During this past legislative session, the East Texas Republican was the primary author of House Bill 2205, and the House Sponsor of Senate Bill 1519.  Both bills, signed into law, improve the oversight and efficiency of the regulatory process and establish a permanent council composed of stakeholders and agency officials to develop recommendations regarding issues affecting the long term care profession.

“Representative Clardy has shown that he will not waiver when it comes to ensuring the health and safety of residents in Texas nursing homes.”, said Warren.

Clardy said he will continue to pursue public policy that can positively impact the quality of care for our seniors.

“Caring for our elderly and disabled is an important mission in protecting the sanctity of life,” Rep. Travis Clardy said. “I am committed to ensuring those who cannot care for themselves receive the medical care they need with dignity and respect”.

Rep. Clardy is currently serving his fourth term representing District 11, which includes Cherokee, Nacogdoches and Rusk counties. He is a small business owner and attorney who lives in Nacogdoches. In the Texas House, he serves as a member of the Human Services Committee and Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
