THCA MEMBERS MEET WITH KEY LEGISLATORS

The 86th Texas Legislature is just around the corner and THCA members are getting ready by meeting with their legislators.

Invitations have gone out from facilities around the state inviting legislators to meet with them to learn about long term care and how it impacts their districts.

Over the last month, those meetings include:

  • Vincent Mitchell, Executive Director at Laurel Court in Alvin, met with Senator Larry Taylor at the Senator’s district office. The facility is owned by Cantex Continuing Care Network.
  • James Moore, Administrator at Oceanview Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Texas City, and other representatives of The Ensign Group also met with Senator Taylor in his district office.
  • Joe Vernon, Administrator at Santa Fe Health & Rehabilitation in Weatherford, and Advanced Healthcare Solutions Regional Director Paula Clifton, had lunch with Rep. Phil King.
  • Crowell Nursing Center, an Advanced Healthcare Solutions facility, hosted Rep. James Frank.
  • Gary Elkins visited Legend Oaks, an Ensign Group facility in West Houston.
  • Senator Brian Birdwell toured Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Waxahachie, which is owned by The Ensign Group.

The meetings give local providers a chance to interact with those who represent them in Austin. That local perspective can be very important to legislators when they make decisions affecting long term care.
