Final THCA Endorsed Candidate Wins Primary

More than three weeks after voters went to the polls for the Republican primary runoff, former Killeen mayor Scott Cosper is the party’s official nominee for state representative in Texas House District 54.

The original canvassed vote count following the May 24 election gave Cosper a 43 vote margin of victory. Because of that razor tight edge, his opponent asked for and funded a recount.

That process was completed on June 15 and resulted in the margin narrowing by just four votes. His opponent conceded the election and announced he plans no further challenges.

Cosper will face a Democratic opponent in the fall election. They will be vying to replace retiring Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock (R-Killeen).

Cosper’s runoff victory ends a successful primary season for the THCA PAC. All twelve candidates the PAC endorsed in contested primaries were victorious.
