September is Preparedness Month in Texas
Governor Greg Abbott has declared September as Preparedness Month in Texas to coincide with National Preparedness Month.
Texas leads the nation in major disaster declarations. In 2016 alone, the state has endured four major disasters.
The theme for the 2016 National Preparedness Month is: Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today. Please share the following with your staff and families.
Everyone is encouraged to develop an emergency plan for communicating with family and friends and know where you and loved ones will go if an evacuation is necessary. Learn how to assemble a disaster supply kit of important emergency supplies including a first aid kit, a NOAA Weather Radio or battery-operated radio, flashlight, medication, non-perishable food items and bottled water. Take this time to promote awareness, preparedness and mitigation to help prevent and reduce loss of life and property.
