Course Description:

This session of the PDPM Master Class Series will review how daily clinical, Medicare, and triple-check meeting processes can be updated to ensure ongoing resident-centered assessment and identification of changes under PDPM. Best practices for review of newly admitted residents, incorporating IPA considerations, Interrupted Stay tracking, and assurance of continued skilled need will be emphasized along with ensuring clean claims through an effective pre-submission review process.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand considerations for new admissions, Interrupted Stay and IPA completion and how to incorporate monitoring for optional IPA completion during daily clinical meetings
  2. Identify key roles of the IDT in completion of collaborative Medicare and Triple Check meetings to ensure support of skilled need throughout length of stay and release of clean claims

Course Content

20 minutes            Overview of considerations for newly admitted residents, Interrupted Stays and IPA
completion and how to incorporate identification of changes in condition and IPA
review into daily clinical meeting practices

20 minutes            Review of suggested Medicare meeting frequency, attendees, and content

10 minutes            Example Medicare meeting video

20 minutes            Review of suggested Triple Check meeting frequency, attendees, and content

5 minutes              Closing Comments/Q&A

Course Description:

This session of the PDPM Master Class Series will review essential competencies for PDPM success including, but not limited to, ICD-10 coding, Section GG assessment, and MDS coding with special focus on nursing clinical competencies to identify, assess, and manage Nursing and NTA conditions and services.  Suggested processes for evaluating facility level of competency in certain areas will be reviewed while creating effective staff development processes for initial and ongoing education, skills development, and cross-training to avoid gaps in competency related to employee turn-over will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review PDPM core competency essentials
  2. Identify potential areas of opportunity for competency development within the individual facility through a process of competency evaluation
  3. Develop systems for initial and ongoing competency evaluation and education

Course Content

20 minutes            Overview of PDPM competency considerations including, but not limited to, ICD-10
coding, Section GG assessment, and MDS coding

30 minutes            Examine Nursing and NTA conditions and services and review ways to evaluate
staff and increase ability to support medically complex residents

20 minutes            Review effective systems for initial and ongoing education and identification of gaps
in competency

5 minutes              Closing Comments/Q&A
