“A Few Thoughts from the Business Community”

– Buddy Parker, Chair -THCA Business Advisory Committee

Supporting LTC at the Texas State Capitol, the Texas Coalition for Long Term Care Business (TxCLTCB), held our TxCLTCB Capitol Visit Day in Austin on Tuesday, March 31st.  We had fifteen individuals representing eight companies, with four of those companies returning from our first Capitol Visit Day in 2012!  Thank you all who worked the day into your schedules and for your commitment to LTC during this very important time.

We each met with State Legislators and/or their staff where our goals and talking points included:

  • CHRONIC MEDICAID UNDERFUNDING FOR TEXAS LONG TERM CARE: The Domino Effect  it will have on the business community
    1. Underfunded Medicaid rate by $343 million
    2. Would create Workforce Instability
    3. Businesses that Support Nursing Homes (Consulting, Medical Equipment, Food Services, etc.) could be forced to close or scale back their workforce
    4. Texas long term care related jobs would be at risk
    5. There would be a deeper impact to rural communities with the loss and/or reduction of some of these business

The Texas Coalition for Long Term Care Business (TCLTCB) is a grassroots coalition of Texas-based long term care businesses providing valuable goods and services to the state’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities caring for more than 60,000 elderly and disabled residents statewide. We were established in 2013 to lend our voice to Lawmakers in Austin of the Domino Effect of further cutting funding to our business partners in Long Term Care facilities.

I would respectfully ask each of you to promote our coalition to your individual vendors.  Joining cost them nothing and we only ask they to send a letter from time to time to their Legislators. Our web site is http://www.tcltcb.org/.

Just around the corner is the THCA Spring Conference and Resource Fair, 3 events in one, which for me is really exciting. Golf, Monday at a truly beautiful and challenging course, followed by the Welcome Reception that evening and then OF COURSE, on Tuesday is the Resource Fair which is jammed packed with vendors from across the state. Don’t forget about the “Silent Auction” the Region Chairs are sponsoring and the Networking. Uhmm!!! What did I forget?? Oh, Yes!!! Let’s not forget about all these Continuing Education classes and as well as all 5 M.C.O.’s in a round table environment.

Last note, if each of you would, please ask your vendors as they come to your facilities if they are Business Members of THCA. If not, we would like to hear from them so we can share the benefits and networking capabilities that a Business Membership provides. You can direct them to Gina Muniz or Darren Wright at THCA.

Region Meetings this month

Most Regions will not meet within their respective regions this month as they encourage all members to join them at the upcoming THCA Spring Conference in Austin, April 20-22nd.  CLICK HERE for more information on the THCA Spring Conference, including the Agenda.

THCA Contact Information Sheet

Administrators: If you haven’t already, please complete and return your THCA Facility Contact Information sheet to THCA (MICROSOFT WORD VERSION – .DOC) (PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT VERSION – .PDF).  THCA is vigorously working to update all THCA-member Administrator and Director of Nursing contact information in the membership database, to ensure we each receive the important, and sometimes vital, information disseminated as quickly as possible.
