HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT RUNNING FOR PUBLIC OFFICE?

At all levels of government, the perspectives of people involved in long term care need to be heard. Very few of those who make the decisions affecting this sector of health care understand even the basics of how it works.

One way to change that is to elect leaders with experience in long term care. They can provide valuable insight to the process and educate their colleagues on how this large part of most local economies operates.

Despite its design as a “citizen Legislature”, there are no lawmakers who currently work in long term care and only a handful with even the slightest experience in it. Yet in other states, providers have sought leadership roles. Most famously, current AHCA President and CEO Mark Parkinson served as Governor of Kansas after years of experience in the sector.

Here are two non-partisan websites which can tell you more about how to know if running for office is what you want to do, what to expect if you do run, etc.
