THCA HONORS TWO SENATORS FOR LONG TERM CARE SUPPORT

State Senators Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) and Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa (D-McAllen) received awards from THCA last month for their work on behalf of long term care in the Texas Legislature.

Sen. Hughes was honored with a “Champion of Long Term Care” award on October 30 at Providence Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Tyler. As one of the Senate’s leading conservative voices, Hughes was a valuable co-author for the Nursing Facility Reinvestment Allowance (NFRA) and worked his colleagues in support of it.

“It’s not often we can get our money back from Washington with no strings attached,” Hughes said. “I’m optimistic that next session we can bring this home and provide real help for our seniors.”

The author of that bill, Senator Hinojosa, received on of THCA’s Legislators of the Year Award during an event on November 14 at Cimarron Place Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Corpus Christi.

“Senator Hinojosa is a powerful and influential Senator in Austin who never forgets what’s really important to his constituents back home,” THCA President and CEO Kevin Warren said. “His support for boosting long term care funding without burdening taxpayers reassured his colleagues the plan was a good one.”

Hinojosa said his support for long term care will continue.

“Texas nursing homes face critical problems because of a severe state Medicaid reimbursement shortfall,” Hinojosa said, thanking THCA for the honor. “This past session we worked tirelessly to create a funding solution that would increase quality of care for our loved ones. I will continue to stand up for our Texas seniors and their families to improve long term care because they deserve better.”
