“He can compress the most words into the smallest idea of any man I know.” Abraham Lincoln

While I was in college, I worked in a small locally owned men’s clothing store.  The owner used to say to me, “I buy your books, and buy your books, and all you do is chew the covers off.”  Never mean spirited, but more of exasperation. I never really understood what that meant; however, he said it enough that, looking back, I should have connected the dots sooner than later.

As l look back on that time, I realize that he wasn’t trying to confuse me. He was making a point. He was pointing out, using an old phrase, that as much opportunity as he was giving me to understand customer service and all the aspects of the store, I wasn’t applying the knowledge.  I wasn’t “getting it”!

With session over half over, it’s ever more important that you continue to reach out and visit your representatives and Senators so they “get it”!   Garnering the necessary support for (SB1130) Nursing Facility Reinvestment Allowance is a must.

We must work together to speak directly to our legislators and their offices. Improving the Medicaid base rate is a critical component of the efforts underway to improve and sustain the level of care that is expected of us and that we are capable of achieving. Tell your story.

Communicating to these members of the legislature about the positive impact that increasing the state’s investment in long term care will have requires a collective and consistent effort over the next eight weeks.

Let your elected officials know how much you are committed to your community and those you serve.
