Seasonal Flu Reporting Reminder
The flu is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can be mild to severe, and can result in serious outcomes such as hospitalization or death. Older adults, young children, and people with compromised immune systems are at a higher risk for serious complications from flu. Now is the time for long term care providers to review their specific program requirements in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) for guidance related to vaccination requirements and infection control.
It is also important to remember that per TAC Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 97, all outbreaks must be reported to the local health department, regardless of the provider type. Contact information for your local health department can be found on the DSHS website.
Long term care providers can also visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for specific recommendations on how to manage an outbreak.
