New Chairs to Lead Key Legislative Committees

NEW CHAIRS TO LEAD KEY LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEES 

Each of the two committees with jurisdiction over most long term care issues will have new leadership this session. 

The Senate Health & Human Services Committee will now be chaired by Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham). Kolkhorst is now in her third session in the Senate after serving seven sessions in the House, where she chaired the Public Health Committee. She was named as a THCA Champion of Long Term Care following the 2015 Legislative Session. 

She replaces Senator Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown), who chaired the committee since 2014. 

In the House, new Speaker Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton) has appointed Rep. James Frank (R-Wichita Falls) as Human Services Committee Chair. Frank served as Vice-Chair of the Committee during the last legislative session. He takes over for Rep. Richard Pena Raymond (D-Laredo) who chaired the committee for the past four sessions.
