House Appropriations Chair Will Not Seek ReelectionRepresentative John Otto (R-Dayton), who chaired the budget writing House Appropriations Committee during the last legislative session, announced in July that he will retire from the Legislature at the end of his current term. Otto, who is a CPA, has served in the House since 2005 but was just named chair of the powerful committee in January. His resignation means that once the Legislature reconvenes in January, 2017, the House will have a new chair for its budget writing committee for the second consecutive session. It is not expected that the announcement of the new chair will come until the start of the 2017 session. |
