A Message From Your THCA Region Chairs…..Holidays are on the Horizon!Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays and before you know it it’ll be time to ring in the New Year! While we all have our wonderful Activities Professionals preparing holiday fun for all to enjoy, we must remember that as leaders we must exemplify the Spirit as our residents, resident family/friends and our staff look to us for it. Create Holiday Spirit for your Residents & Staff. It Only Takes One to Make a Difference! The Holidays are an excellent time to engage your community by inviting variety of community members to join in the festivities at your facility, giving them an opportunity to learn more on the importance of LTC first-hand. Events like a series of readings / storytelling (similar to what a library holds) that parents and pre-schools can bring children to, in addition to area church & school choirs, scout groups, etc. is a win-win for not only your facility, but for your residents and staff. And as a reminder, while many of these wonderful Holiday Cheer events take place during the day, please don’t forget to have something organized for the night shift. Although much of your facility is quiet for residents who are sleeping, many times they have residents who may have their days and nights mixed up at the nurses’ station with them. So be sure to have something to help keep them engaged, and of course some Holiday goodies for your staff. Make time to go in during the night shift and share your Holiday Spirit with them. A little time from you shows them you appreciate them. Remember, It Only Takes One to Make a Difference! Please send pictures of your events to THCA. We’d love to be able to share the excitement happening around the state with our social media followers – some of whom are dignitaries. Pictures should be sent to gmuniz@txhca.org. Be sure to include your facility name and a little info about the event that’s pictured. |
