THCA Submits Interim Study Requests
With the 84th Legislative Session adjourning on June 1, the work of members and staff will soon turn to interim studies.
Texas House Speaker Joe Straus and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick will soon announce charges for the House and Senate to examine. These are issues which the two leaders believe may require action from the Legislature during the next legislative session and need careful study to determine the best course of action.
Committees will hold hearings on the charges in their subject areas with invited and public testimony. They will issue a report with recommended actions before the next Legislature convenes in January, 2017.
THCA has requested the Legislature study four issues in the coming months:
THCA President/CEO Kevin Warren wrote to House Human Services Committee Chair that “long term care is a dynamic sector of health care…these are the main areas where information is needed in order to help move our efforts forward.”
Straus and Patrick are expected to announce the charges sometime this fall with hearings starting at the beginning of next year.
